So, for any of my suitably geeky friends out there.. Anyone wanna take a guess as to why Firefox, after running smoothly for days on end, will suddenly start grabbing the lion's share of my cpu? (often up to 99% cpu?)

I really like firefox, but when it suddenly decides to hog the entire system and reduce everything to a crawl, I get annoyed. I've tried disabling/uninstalling add-ons one by one to see if that's the problem, but I can't conclusively say any odd on is doing it.

Grrrrr..

You might need to empty the cache periodically...Firefox has memory issues, though, in my experience. I use it anyway.

Firefox has some memory management issues, which they denied for the longest time. Many of them were supposed to have been cleared up in Firefox 3, so if you're still on FF2, you'll want to upgrade.

Really, the best way to prevent it is to close FF when you step away from the computer. It's a crappy workaround, but it keeps things running smoothly.

I've had a few adds on pages recently hogging my CPU, once you figure out which page, and close it, it's all better.
