They called and left me a voicemail today, indicating that there had been a discussion over pay and would I please call them back?

So I called -- And got the pay bumped up to $8.50 / hour - While it's still not the 9.00/hr minimum my parents were hoping for, with overtime, I'll be making a little more than I was before. However, they're still counting on the overtime. But the base pay is only about 3k less a year than I'm making now, so it's workable, and, I suspect, if I can get in and bust ass like I'm pretty sure will happen, I'll be getting a raise pretty damn quick.

So yes, I accepted the job.

I have a new job, and I fill out the paperwork tomorrow.

Now I just have to give notice on Tuesday.

Today seemed a lot easier than yesterday did. I'm relieved and feel a lot better.

Congratz Scott! I'm sure you will enjoy this job more than your current one and if the health insurance is better than that will help even out the difference. I'm happy for you my friend!

Scott, I'm glad you found another job that makes you happy/u> but i know you were looking for an IT job and that would bring in a whole lot more than $8.50. Actually I think you are worth a whole lot more now than that. Have you thought about trying to get an internship in somewhere? That would bring money, experience, and a foot in the door at a company.

Frankly, for me having a husband who's happy is more important than having a husband who makes lots of money. And, believe me, given my home situation growing up, I speak with nigh on twenty-two years of experience on this one. Believe me, we know the possibilities within the IT industry, and the geographical distribution of said jobs. We considered a number of factors--not just money. This was the best thing for both of us.

Please, keep in mind that this is a decision that affects exactly two people--Scott and me--and is a decision that has already been made. Advice was requested in his previous posts, not in this one. Politeness and decency dictate that now is either time for a congratulations, or a time for quiet.

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you or Scott, but I just think he is getting a raw deal with the new place and may repeat the cycle of being unhappy in his job/life because he is not doing IT, which I thought was his career aspirations. If you two are happy with the new job, that's great, congrats.

...actually, his new job does involve IT. He'd be doing web design and watching/administering the servers (OK, I don't know the jargon...he'd be doing something with the thingamajig, and this is why I'm a WRITER, dammit!), so it is entry-level IT--just not with an IT company.
