So.. holidays.. yeah.

Lessee.. First we thought we were going to back out of the house deal, try to get our earnest money back, let the house go back on the market, and re-bid for it at a lower price, as well as asking HUD to pay the closing costs, as compensation for the Flood Insurance that wasn't disclosed to us.

However, because we cannnot confirm that we will get -any- of our earnest money back, and we cannot afford to lose $1000, it appears that we're moving forward on the deal after all. We're getting money from the folks to handle closing costs and other such things, and we should find out soon if/when we close the deal.

Because of the house deal, Rach and I have been trying to put away as much money in savings as possible for the closing costs. So with that, and with Christmas, we're living "poor" for a while. I haven't gone "Christmas" shopping yet. Rachel did, though, and we spent Christmas Eve with her parents.

Rachel got a sweater, and a book, paint shop pro 8, corelle service for 8, and Best of REM on CD. [livejournal.com profile] psychomerrell gave her the Witch Hunter Robin box set from http://anotherheaven.biz

He got me Ranma 1/2 box set 2, and Rachel got me Ranma 1/2 box set 1. So I've got something like 60 some odd episodes of Ranma goodness. This just proves how much my wife and my best friend kick complete ass. I thought maybe I'd get the Trigun box set, and although the Ranma sets were what I wanted most, I didn't actually think I'd get them. So again, you guys both totally and completely kick ass, and I want you to know. Thank you again and again! :)

Besides the Ranma sets, I got the Donnie Darko DVD from Erica, Rachel's sister. Rachel said she picked it out herself, and bought it with her own money, so out of everything I got for Christmas, (which in the grand scheme of societal obligation, was much less than the average American would give/receive) it turned out to be the "littlest" things that mean the most. Rachel's grandma, Mimi gave me the most gorgeous Christmas card ever and a $20 -- Rach and I went to Goodwill today and I spent $10 on it on some nice new shirts. I found an Eddie Bauer solid black XXLT polo shirt, a brand new hawaiian shirt, a short sleeved button-up shirt in this grey geometrical pattern, and a green pullover sweater vest, along with the Martin Short/ Whoopi Goldbert Alice in Wonderland on VHS, and I got Rachel a nifty black and blue sweater..

It means a lot to me that Erica actually tries to get me stuff I like.. I mean, I could understand just getting an obligated gift, but she actually does try. She's a good kid, and I like her. I mean, in a way, she's now the closest thing I'll ever get to having a sister myself. So Erica, thank you for the DVD. I love it! Rachel's folks(read: Dad) got me a Black & Decker cordless drill set: drill, circular saw, reciprocating saw and flashlight in a big plastic suitcase.. along with a package of every possible drill attachment ever made.. Mark got us a Home Depot gift card, which, along with the one Dave and Amy got us for the Wedding, will come in very very handy.

My folks got both Rachel and myself new tires for our cars -- not a very glamorous gift, but a very needed and practical one, and frankly, I'd prefer a useful gift to some gaudy bauble that we don't really need.

On the other hand, all was not puppies and games this holday season.. Rachel made me watch The Sound of Music for the very first time -- admittedly I still hate the opening number, but the rest of the movie wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be, and seeing Christoper Plummer is just wierd.. She also made me watch Legally Blonde, which also wasn't as bad as I thought, although it was as formulaic as a I thought, with an overdose of perkiness and pink. Lastly, Saturday night/Sunday morning (Christmas night) my parents' entire neighborhood was burglarized. Fortunately, my parents had prepared after the last time the neighborhood was burglarized, so all they had was a broken lock on the garage door, and a broken security motion light. The neighbors, however, didn't fare so well. The next door neighboors had a Lincoln Navigator with bling-bling spinner wheels that they attempted to remove, as well as breaking a window out, other neighbors had vehicles broken into, some had garages broken into and tools stolen, etc. Apparently they had a truck and were planning to load the thing up before they got scared off. However, because my dad had the garage barricaded, (The garage they tried to break into has his '37 Plymouth and '67 Nova SS in it) we're worried that they may come back again. Dad added another cross beam on the side door, which brings it up to 3 2x4's on the side door, so that -should- keep them out, but I'm still worried. Crime continues to be a problem in their neighboorhood, which is sad because we've lived there pretty much all our lives, and the crime really only became a problem within the last few years.. I'm worried that something is going to happen at some point where someone intrudes on my folks, and guns will come into play. And to a certain degree, I'm not sure right now that I'd really be all that upset if these assholes got shot. I'm so fed up with humanity, with all these fuckheads who seem to think the world exists for them.

But I did get a bunch of work done this weekend, like mastering the DVD of the Fall 2004 SWRAP Commodore Expo video footage, which I'll be showing to Dave soon, and we went grocery shopping, and we splurged at Barnes and Nobles tonight with gift cards from the wedding; Rachel joked that you could tell what we majored in -- She's obviously an English major with her copies of Chekov's collected stories, Dostoyevsky's "The Idiot," and "Great Amer. Short Stories: Hawthorne to Hemingway," while I on the other hand, picked up the latest issue of "Retro Gaming Magazine," "Project Aracade: Build your own home Arcade Machine," and some bargain 1.99 Sci-Fi Tech Thriller called "LUCI in the Sky."

So yeah.. Merry Fuckin' Christmas.
