So, I fixed my van last night. The rod that protrudes from the shifter cable was bent to hell, and had disconnected itself from the lever on the steering column. I was able to straighten it and put it back together, no need for a new part. If I'd had my tools with me, I might've been able to fix it that day at work. *headdesk* At least it's out of the road now in front of the house and actually -in- the driveway. Makes the house look -slightly- less hillbilly. (The foot high grass doesn't help, though. Guess what I'm doing in the next day or so?)
I also got the K&N filter for my Concorde. Filled up with gas the same night. I'll get to see what increases in mpg, if any, I get after I fill up again. It's running a lot better with the wheel bearing fixed and the trans leak fixed. It seems like it might still have a small oil leak, probably from the oil filter, but that's minor. Dad's supposed to order me a refurb A/C compressor so I can get the A/C fixed. I can't wait.
Today we took a survey at work to give them a freeze-frame snapshot of what our currently feelings are. One of the first I didn't blow off or just give generic good ratings to. No no, I actually reported that I think things suck balls.
Also, today, the option was given for us to switch to 4 10 hour shifts. I think I'm going to do it. I'd still have Saturdays and Sundays off, but I'd also get Tuesday or Wednesday off, and I'd be saving an 80 mile trip to work. 320 miles a week vs. 400, well, it's not huge, but it translates to $12 a week gas savings. Especially when I'm paying for 95% of my gas costs from my "personal" money. In fact, right now, my "personal" money primarily is going towards gas money and breakfast/lunch every day in the work cafeteria. Plus, I'd still be able to DJ in SL, I'd have Wednesdays available for things like working on the house, future house showings, selling cars , working on cars, going to the 1/2 price day at the junkyard out by
posicat, etc. etc. etc. All around good stuff. The idea of getting up at 6:00 and getting home by 7:00 kinda stinks, but doing that for two days, and then getting a day off, and then doing it again for 2 days, and getting days off makes it sound tolerable.
I still wanna quit, mind you.. but it's hard to think about giving up what salary I -do- make already and braving this hellish job market right now. *sigh* Even though I basically wanna just got work in a video store and be done with it. Although with the schedule changes, it might even be feasible to move closer into Chicago and still keep the job.
This weekend's gonna be slow, 'cos I'm not going out to Chicago or anything; I -have- to get back to the "work at home" thing if I'm ever gonna finish this and be done. Sucks, but there you have it.
