sabrinageek: (*grumble*)
Okay.. everyone talks about how great in this economy working 4 10 hour shifts are. And at the beginning, the logic seems sound: just put in a small amount of time in over your normal for four days to get an entire "extra" day off!

What I've learned is this: For me, anyways.. 10 hours + 2 hours commuting = no time to really do ANYTHING on work days. 10 hours of making outbound calls = Zombie Bear.
Yesterday, by the end of the day, I could tell I was beginning to get eyestrain and my brain was fried. I also know that I tend to go sleep deprived during the week (getting about 6 hours of sleep a night) because of wanting more time to myself. Basically, I'm robbing myself of 2 hours sleep to make up for the 2 hours commute, I think. Usually I oversleep on the weekends I think.

Well, today, I woke up exhausted. I mean, not just tired, not just sleepy, but exhausted. So I called work and said "Hi, I'm swapping Tuesday for Wednesday." This is going to screw over all my plans, and I know it, but I was so exhausted this morning when I sat in my car that I wondered if I'd even be able to make the drive without falling asleep. I say this because there -have- been mornings where I started dozing off on the way to work. I've never been a morning person, and I know it. I almost wonder if I'd be better off with a 2nd shift job again.

So.. on the plus side.. I took today off, and went back to sleep. And promptly slept from 7am 'til 11am. Guess I needed it. On the negative side, this messes up all my plans, and obviously, does not fix the problem, just the symptom. But I guess that's how "sick days" work, right? I mean, when you're really sick, not playing hooky. However, this is my last week of "temporary" 4 10s, and frankly, I'm ready to go back to the 8's. The extra day is nice, but the rest of the week is blasted to bits. Plus, the commute makes the 10 hour day even longer.

So now I gotta try and figure out what all to do. BLAH
