So, yeah..
Mar. 8th, 2008 12:36 amMy PC's power supply fan has been dying now for months.. This week it finally got to a noise level I couldn't stand, and I could hear what sounded like it literally locking up and stopping periodically, and when it was running, the ball bearings were screaming. So, Tuesday, I opened it up, and replaced the fan with an 80mm case fan.
Whoops. Guess the case fans aren't pumping through as much Airflow as a power supply fan does. It worked for about a day or so and then on Wednesday I came home to BSOD and an endless reboot cycle.
Thursday night I stopped off at Circuit City, and got a cheap PSU tester on clearance and a replacement Antec 350w supply. The tester confirmed -- all voltages low, Power Supply is junk.
Replaced the power supply, all systems go. 'Cept the SATA C:\ System Drive got hosed in the process. So, after spending last night and tonight fighting with my backup system disk, cloning, and still having no luck salvaging my apps and files, I decided to hell with it and reinstalled a fresh copy of XP with SP3.
That's why I've been sporadic this past week -- only laptop access for a while. But PC's back running now, albeit on a barebones application level. But it shouldn't take me too long to get most of my apps reinstalled.. I hope.
Tomorrow I have to do a brake job on my car. The front rotors are warped really badly and I'm pretty sure it needs new pads too. I also think the right front wheel bearing is going out, but it's not so bad yet that it -has- to be replaced, and I don't know that I can justify the $100 just yet. Esp. if I'm gonna be forking out $75 or so tomorrow for new rotors and pads. *sigh*
So very little in the way of Sabrina-socializing this weekend.
