sabrinageek: (Happy)
Part the first: (Especially for Browncoats and fans of Firefly / Joss Whedon)

I got to go to the second Serenity pre-screening last night. Yes, I'm a bastard.

I also got to meet SUMMER GLAU. I got her autograph, and my friend [livejournal.com profile] psychomerrell got a picture of himself taken as he kissed her hand.

Also, I was the first person in Chicago interviewed by a Universal Studios film crew at the screening -- I was in costume, and this interview may be included on the DVD release of Serenity. In other words, I may be immortalized as a complete freakin' geek on a feature film DVD release!

In other words.. GORRAM SHINY!

Second Verse:

I had an interview today. [livejournal.com profile] westly, Please don't smack me for what I'm about to say. Friends of mine happen to work for the local, rather large distributor of Hobby/Gaming materials. (Yes, [livejournal.com profile] westly, Blackhawk wants to hire me.) This company also just recently acquired triple it's usual business by buying a defunct competitor's accounts. They need help, desperately. These friends also happened to witness me bitching about my job at the opportune moment. They referred me to their boss, who contacted me to see if I was interested. I've spoken with their management people, interviewed, and basically, they're salivating to hire me. I've never been in a position before where a) my unique and strange work history actually works in my favor -- UPS and a Comp Sci Degree -BOTH- apply to this job, and b) I've never actually been "courted" by an employer before.

Ironically, people who worked for this company in the past have left to come work for -my- company. A few of my co-workers are ex-employees. However, my job has gotten so bad, the morale so low, and the pay raises so insignificant, that despite what I've heard on occasion about the owner, it sounds like getting hired for this job will be a huge relief on my sanity. There also appears to be room for upward mobility as the job they want me in is more than just "grunt." There's also mucho overtime, compared to the none that I get now.

The only thing unknown at this point is what salary they're considering. My mom is incredibly optimistic (and praying) that it'll be significantly higher (by a dollar or two / hour) than I'm making now. Personally, for sanity reasons, if they can offer me close to what I'm already making now, I'll most likely take the job, just because I literally cannot take much more of my current job.

So, tomorrow, I get to meet/interview with the owner of the company. If all goes well, I will finally have something close to an IT position.. in the gaming industry. Things have been really "coincidental" and have really fallen into place very neatly, so I'm hoping that this is a sign that this is what I should be doing. Here's hoping.. Wish me luck!
